Bars are the most direct way to hold silver. Weight and purity are stated on the piece, and the price follows the fine weight at the rate of the day.

How this category is quoted

The method does not change from one category to the next. The piece is weighed, anything that is not metal is deducted, purity is tested, and the fine weight is priced at the day’s rate with making and applicable GST shown as separate lines.

• Gross weight, taken on the scale in front of you
• Less the weight of stones, beads, thread or ghungroo
• Net metal weight at the tested purity
• Fine weight, which is what the rate is applied to
• Making charge and applicable GST, each stated separately
